Are you thinking of making the decision to live the experience of ballooning and you want to get an idea of the altitude at which you will find yourself? Or you are simply a curious person and would you like to know, on average, what heights can be reached ?
Be aware that the current world records for the height reached by a balloon flight is over 50,000 feet, which is more than 15,000 meters!
Of course, these are unusual heights for normal flights that are generally performed.
We at Balloon in Tuscany , for example, travel at a height that depends mainly on the conformity of the territory, on what is overflyed and above all on the visibility.
To be more precise the trip in ideal balloon is what you do at an altitude ranging from from 300 feet to 2500 feet (corresponding respectively to 100 meters and 800 meters …).
In case of overflight of inhabited centers (as it can happen when we fly to Siena, San Gimignano or the villages of the Tuscan Chianti) we generally fly lower , and therefore on 300-400 feet (about 100 meters high).
Even visibility due to light haze or cloudy weather can in some cases affect the cruising height to keep. However, at Balloon in Tuscany, we do not fly in case of fog for safety reasons.
Here are some photos taken by our hot air balloons to help you visually understand at what altitude we fly.
